The advertised position is associated with the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Vienna and is within the framework of a newly granted FWF (Austrian Science Fund) project of Prof. Nathanaël Berestycki.
The extent of employment is 40 hours per week with no teaching obligations, and the salary (expected to be around €87.220 gross per year) includes full social security. The position is for a duration of two years with the possibility of extension for a third year. The position will start on 01 September 2025 or later upon agreement.
About the project: The project is on Random Conformal Fields and the aim is to explore fundamental geometric properties of Liouville quantum gravity (LQG), with a particular focus on its associated spectral geometry, as well as related models of statistical mechanics such as the dimer model.
A background in probability, especially on Liouville quantum gravity or random conformally invariant processes, is beneficial. A good background in geometry and/or dynamics would also be considered positively.
Candidates must have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics at the start of the position to qualify for the full salary above. Candidates whose anticipated degree will be given after the start of the position may however also apply.
Application Requirements and Procedure:
The application should contain:

- At least two letters of recommendation sent directly by the letter writers to the address stochastics.mathematik@univie.ac.at
- The deadline for applications and for letters is May 19th, 2025 at 17:00 (Central European Time).
