Discretisation of Elliptic PDEs on Complicated Geometries

Composite Finite Elements allow
the low-dimensional discretisation of
boundary value problems on complicated
geometries. The minimal number of
unknowns is independent of the size and
number of geometric details. In our talk we
discuss the application of composite finite
elements to
- the low-dimensional discretisation of PDEs on complicated domains,
- the a-posteriori controled design of problem-adapted finite element spaces on complicated geometries,
- black-box multigrid methods on complicated domains.
